As I recall my recollection of Able Danger, former Republican congressman Curt Weldon, representing the seventh district of Pennsylvania, comes to mind.
Able Danger caught my attention at first because I thought it would reveal more of the Bush's failed efforts to address the Al Qaeda threat before the attack on the twin towers. I couldn't of been further from the truth.
Upon closer inspection of Able Danger's (AD)intent, I discovered the motives for bringing this to the American public was to highlight Bill Clinton's failures and pin the sole responsibility for 9/11 on him as well.
From the very start, Weldon, who lead the Able Danger charge, had source material problems. No one could verify seeing the chart he used to illustrate the connection to operatives involved in the AD project.
When the hearing, lead my Senator Alen Specter, did occur, Rumfield blocked the appearances of witnesses that would of clarified the claims of former Rep. Weldon. However, it gave the floor to Weldon who used the hearing to make baseless claims that there was a conspiracy theory to hide the existence of AD. Keep in mind, Weldon's rant served as a rally call to get to the bottom of all things associated with AD, in spite of any evidence they even existed.
What really sealed my opinion concerning AD was watching Weldon wait until every congressperson left the House floor to bring this topic up again. I concluded he knew he would have problems answering to the validity of his claim, so he waited until there was no one there to challenge his still baseless claims about AD.
